Cryolipolysis by KryoShape® in Zurich (Fat Reduction by cold)

Cryolipolysis

Cryolipo, lipo-cryo, lipocryolysis: all of these terms describe an innovative method that serves to reduce locally stored body fat by the impact of cold. Bodyclinic in Zurich deploys KryoShape® Version 2.0, which is state-of-the-art technology in this sector. As an innovation, the tissue is no longer simply cooled in between two plates – instead, the entire applicator is cooled fully and consistently. This significantly increases the volume of fat cooled and improves the results thus gained.

Cryolipolysis by KryoShape® in Zurich at the The Bodyclinic

It has been known for a long time already (since 1966) that prolonged exposure of fatty tissue to cold can lead to a volume reduction of this tissue (see references). The idea to use this fact to reduce undesired localized fat deposits was researched clinically by American scientists. An American company then developed the first equipment for clinical use.

In the meantime, various devices functioning according to similar principles have been introduced to the market. Many of them are cheap imitations that cool inconsistently, which increases the risk of dermal damage while being poorly effective only.

With KryoShape® Version 2.0, our day clinic in Zurich deploys state-of-the-art technology in the cryolipolysis sector.

Cryolipolysis treatment course

Prior to the treatment

First of all, the fat pads are marked by lines and the respective areas are measured and photographed. At our day clinic, we record your current status using 3D Bodytracking made by Bodygee. This allows you to verify the result of the treatment when being measured a second time at the follow-up check.

During the treatment

The fat pads are then sucked into a cooling device (a kind of cupping device) by vacuum and cooled for an hour. An extended and controlled exposure to the cold (60 to 75 minutes, depending on the fat layer’s thickness) causes the fatty acids contained by the cells to crystallize. These fat cells thus forfeit their viability (so-called apoptosis). Other body cells like dermal and muscle cells are clearly less sensitive to cold and are thus not affected by it.

Within the scope of a slow process, the dead fat cells are decomposed by endogenous scavenger cells. This will take 2 to 3 months. Consequently, the treatment’s final result will not become obvious before the respective time has passed by. A single treatment session will reduce about 20 to 30% of the fat volume exposed to the cold.

After completing the cooling cycle the respective area will be treated with acoustic waves.  Afterwards, you can simply resume your normal activities.

Interesting facts about KryoShape®

An important aspect of cryolipolysis is that the fatty layer is cooled sufficiently, while the skin surface must not be cooled too intensely to prevent frostbites. KryoShape® ensures this by accurate integrated control measurement. (Avoid experiments on yourself using frozen ice pads – all you will gain from it are chilblains!).

The treatment is perfect for rather small fat depots on belly, hips, upper arms or thighs that are hard to fight with diets only. However, please note that cryolipolysis does not serve to reduce weight.

The additional application of a sequence of AWT (“Acoustic Wave Treatment“) sessions can even improve the results.
